Aphrodite was the ancient Greek goddess of love, beauty, desire, and all aspects of sexuality. She could induce both gods and mortal men to illicit acts with her beauty and whisper sweet nothings in their ears.
Aphrodite was born near Cyprus from the mutilated genitals of Uranus sky god. Aphrodite had much broader influence than she has traditionally been portrayed as a simple goddess of love.
Worshipped by men, women, and state officials, Aphrodite also played an important role in trade, on the battlefield, and in the politics of ancient Greek cities. She was also honored as the protector of ocean-goers, courtesans, and prostitutes. Her Roman equivalent was Venus.
